Porcelain veneers are thin porcelain ‘shells’ (like a false nail) that is fitted over the front of your tooth to change the:
- Colour
- Shape
- Position of your teeth.
- Close gaps between your teeth
- Straighten your teeth.
It is a minimum invasive procedure where the tooth / teeth are prepared, then an impression is taken, This is then sent to a laboratory where they make the veneers and we fit them about a week later. Veneers are bonded onto your teeth with a special material. They are very strong and become part of your tooth.
Because they are made of porcelain, they will never discolour and always look perfect!
Sometimes if your teeth are very crooked and overlap, it is first necessary to create space by wearing a small orthodontic appliance on the inside, like an ALF appliance, for a while. This will assure that you end up with the correct size teeth that match your face.
If this is not done, then the teeth might be too small and will not look natural!
