Ways your cosmetic dentist can replace metal fillings

Should you want to replace metal fillings with a more aesthetic alternative, your cosmetic dentist has many options at their disposal. At Danny de Villiers Dentist in Weybridge, we have helped many patients enjoy a smile makeover with the help of tooth-coloured alternatives to metal fillings.
dannythedentist-cosmetic-dentistryOnce upon a time, metal amalgam was the only filling material available for patients who had experienced tooth decay. Whilst this is a strong and durable option, it can also be very obvious, particularly if the decayed teeth are located near the front of the mouth.
White fillings have been around for a long time, but for many years were not considered as strong and durable as their metal amalgam counterparts. Nowadays things have changed, and thanks to advances in the materials and techniques used, white fillings are now regarded as almost as strong as metal amalgam ones, and suitable for use anywhere in the mouth.
At our Weybridge dental practice your cosmetic dentist will closely match the colour of your white filling material to the natural colour of your teeth, so that it will blend in seamlessly and no-one will even know your tooth contains a filling. We only use white fillings at Danny de Villiers Dentist.
For larger cavities, a tooth-coloured inlay or onlay may be required. These are in effect a half-step between a composite white filling and a crown, are made from porcelain, and give your tooth extra strength. Again, your cosmetic dentist will be sure to select a shade of porcelain that is in keeping with the natural colour of your teeth, for a seamless blend.
If you have a tooth that has been weakened by a very large metal filling, by root canal treatment or by decay, a crown may be required. The crowns used at our Weybridge practice are made from porcelain or ceramic and contain no metal.
