As a dentist, one of the most common problems heard from patients is that of sensitive teeth. At Danny de Villiers Dentist in Weybridge we are committed to help you beat this problem for good, and offer a number of treatment options.
Sensitive teeth can cause serious discomfort for sufferers. The thought of enjoying a piping hot coffee in the morning or a refreshing ice cream treat on a hot summer’s day should fill you with joy, but if you have sensitive teeth the idea can make you balk. Shooting pains when you eat or drink something hot or cold can make you feel miserable, and we urge you not to suffer in silence. Book an appointment with a dentist at our Weybridge clinic and find out how they can help.
There are numerous causes of sensitive teeth. These include:
- Cracked or chipped teeth
- Deep/large fillings near the nerve of a tooth
- Bruxism (grinding or clenching the teeth during sleep)
- Medical conditions, particularly eating disorders or morning sickness
- Poor brushing technique/brushing teeth too hard
By far the most common cause is enamel erosion. Our teeth are covered by a layer of protective enamel, and if this is eroded the more sensitive dentine beneath is exposed, which can lead to sensitivity or pain.
The first thing your dentist will do when you come for a sensitive teeth consultation at our Weybridge practice is to establish the cause of your discomfort. If your teeth are chipped, cracked or worn, they may use white fillings, crowns or other restorations to repair them. If a poor diet or bad brushing technique is to blame, sessions with the hygienist can help.
We also offer laser treatment at our Weybridge clinic, which can be used to desensitise your teeth. Whatever the cause, your dentist will draw up a bespoke treatment plan to banish sensitivity once and for all.
