Mouth Cancer Screening
This is a short procedure where your whole mouth will be thoroughly examined for any lumps, lesions, sores, ulcers or spots, on the underside of your tongue, the floor of your mouth, the roof of your mouth, your gums and the inside of your cheeks.
You will have a screening in your initial appointment and in all your follow up appointments with Danny de Villiers and then it is recommended that you visit annually for this check-up.
Due to changes in life-style of young people with bad diets, alcohol consumption and smoking on the increase, health experts say this is contributory to the number of cases rising.
Look out for symptoms and if you are worried about anything unusual in your mouth:
- Persistent mouth ulcers that do not heal within a couple of weeks
- Pain or discomfort when eating, talking or moving your tongue
- Numbness in your mouth
- Discoloured area on your cheek or tongue
These symptoms may be mild but if they won’t go away that is more of a concern.
Please contact the practice if you have any concerns and we will see you as soon as possible.
Early detection is the best protection against mouth cancer.
